Hello my Omschooligans! Teacher Omi is thankful for many things on this Memorial Day. I'm grateful for my family members who have passed and the legacy they left me. I'm also grateful for new generations of family members as we celebrate the 11th birthday of the first two boys to call me Omi, Moses and Silas! The flag symbolizes pride and rallies people. The flag is flown or lowered to reflect national joy or sorrow. Here are free printable world flags from around the globe.   • Create a flag bingo game for social studies lesson plans. Bingo is also called Lotto in some countries. There are several great resources for free printable flag-themed Bingo games that you can use for your geography or social studies lessons: Feel free to expand and print this one directly from your browser. 

    • Adventure in a Box offers a "Flag Bingo: Free Version" that is a perfect sample for classroom use, featuring bingo cards and calling cards to help children identify world flags.

    • Crafting Jeannie provides a free "USA Bingo" set that includes American flags and other patriotic symbols, which is great for holidays like Memorial Day.

    🎮 Flag & Culture Games

    1. Matching Flag Cards: Write the name of a country on one set of index cards and draw or print the corresponding flag on another. Have students race to match the country to its correct flag!

    2. Flag-Greeting Memory Game: Create pairs of cards: one side has the national flag, and the other side has the word for "Hello" or "Welcome" in that nation's primary language. Students must flip two cards at a time to find the matching pair.

🌍 Classroom Idea: Greeting of the Day!

To make learning greetings an engaging activity, pick one from the list each morning as your "Greeting of the Day!"

Write it on a chalkboard, have the students practice the pronunciation, and use it to start your social studies session. It’s a simple, high-impact cultural immersion tool to build excitement about geography and world cultures!
