It's happened again. Just when you thought you knew the roster of classes you would be teaching this year, they thrown a new one at you. What do you do for lesson plans at the eleventh hour? Or maybe you are a new teacher in need of lesson plans to get your classroom of to a good start? Or maybe you've taught the same material for so long that you want to gag and flog the publisher with a stick? If you find yourself in need of lesson plans for a new class or supplemental material, then you have found the right place. I have a two blogs on which I post all the free lesson plans that I can find on the internet.

Here is a new free printable teaching lesson plans website that I just discovered while researching for an article. www.kidshealth.org has entire free printable lesson plans. These lesson plans are all based on subjects for health class. There are lesson plans for all grades, preschool through twelfth grade. Each age category has a separtate link. Each grade level has covers three basic areas of health, geared to the age of the student. There are segments on: The Human Body, Health Problems and Personal Health adjusted to the needs, abilities and maturity of the students. Each lesson includes free printable teacher's guide, games, activities, handouts and experiments. Some lessons also contain a study guide, student quiz and answer key. Here is a scope and sequence for each grade level. Perfect for special needs students and special education health classes. Great for homeschoolers, too!

Free Printable Spelling Lessons, Phonics Rules Chart Using Color Coding

Next to math, reading is the most vital learning activity schools teach. But reading is more than just knowing words. Reading involves four components known as RWSL--reading, writing, speaking and listening. The four skills work together. So reading lesson plans must include phonics and whole language approaches. Raise your hand if you write checks or make debit purchases. Now raise your hand if you balance said checkbook and debit purchases. If you raised your hand to both, good for you. Most people don't track their purchases as well as they should. Then they wonder where the money went and why there are late fees, interest charged and bounced checks!

Sunday School teachers used a similar tool called Flannel-Graph. To make felt board pieces, print stencils and cut out patterns. Trace pattern outlines on felt. Or trace templates on flannel. Cut out felt board shapes. As you tell a story, add felt pieces to story board to illustrate. Use as patterns to cut fabric shapes for Halloween costumes, craft appliques, paint stencils, cookie cutter templates for baking or playdoh.

Free Printable Native American Indian Totem Pole Designs and Patterns

When I was six my family moved to Haines, Alaska. We lived with a clan of the Tlinget Native American Indians. Autumn and back to school are great times to explore Native American Indian culture. Here are free printable totem pole design templates.

When I was six, my father, mother and I moved to Haines, Alaska. We lived with a clan of the Tlinget Native American Indians. I was adopted into the tribe and my Tlinget name is Dok-du-Yik. I totally enjoyed the cultural immersion experience. I fondly remember the various Pacific Northwest native designs, especially the Totem poles. 

Totem poles are an important part of Pacific Northwest American Indian tribes like the Tlinget. and Chilkat that I lived with and also the Kwakiutl, Haida and Tsimshian. Autumn always reminds me of them. As a teacher and homeschool parent, I explored Native American culture in fall units. Here are free printable totem pole design templates.

To make a paper totem pole craft with students, print paper totem pole templates and have kids color them. Then they can glue the colored pictures on recycled cardboard paper towel tubes. 

The arrangement and order of the animals on the totem pole is important in Native American Indian culture. The animals form a hierarchy. September is National Literacy Month. And who better to represent it that mischievous monkey Curious George. Curious George has been around many incarnations since WWII when he was "born." His creators, Jews Margaret and H.A. Rey, escaped Nazi occupied France on homemade bikes with the manuscript for Curious George hidden. That adventure was the perfect introduction to nosy, lovable monkey. Free Printable Thanksgiving, Native American Crafts, Activities, Lessons

Schools usually teach Native American history in November. But Native American Indians celebrate special holidays every month. In February, it's the Kwakiutl Midwinter Ceremony (which reaffirms connection with the earth). Here are other Native American holidays and holy days. Teachers and homeschool parents, if you're doing a unit on Native American Indians, here's a unit of lesson planson eastern woodland native American Indians.
